Fostering digital transformation of science in Kenya and Tanzania

Welcome to the FOSTER Project!

FOSTER (Reference number 101178078) is a three-year initiative co-funded by the European Union through the Erasmus+ Programme under the Capacity Building for Higher Education (CBHE) Action.

We aim to drive digital transformation in science and education in Kenya and Tanzania by advancing Open Science through better data infrastructure, inclusive research, citizen science, and digital inclusion.

Our roadmap is guided by key Open Science principles: Open Access and Open Data (FAIR principles); Researcher training and support; Community engagement; Strong policy and infrastructure frameworks; and Collaboration across stakeholders and governments.

The project brings together 9 partners from Kenya, Tanzania, Slovenia, the Netherlands, and Spain, connecting higher education and research institutions to build a more open, collaborative, and innovative scientific future.

  • 1st Consortium Meeting (CM1) realised and hosted by P1-DU / Nairobi/ Kenya
  • Online Consortium Meeting (OCMs) (Zoom meetings): Online Management meetings realised twice /each year with all project partners in order to discuss the progress of the realisation of the project`s activities and other questions arising. 1st Online Consortium Meeting (OCM-1) – Feb 2025 and 2nd Online Consortium Meeting (OCM-2) – July 2025.

  • P1-DU will organise Debriefing Workshop (online event)/All partners jointly define, establish, and agree on scope, sequencing and timelines of e-survey for detailed learning needs of Target Groups (TGs) and methods of collection using digital tools.
  • 1st Open Science Forum (OSF-1): organised and hosted by P1-DU / Nairobi / Kenya (combined with CM1)

  • 2nd Open Science Forum (OSF-2): organised and P4-UDSM / Dar es Salaam / Tanzania (combined with CM2)
